I have decided to do my topic on Music, specifically Christian Rap. This is my favorite type of music and is something that I love. I would like to mostly show this class more of the modern Christian Rap with artists such as Lecrae, Trip lee, and Shai Linne. I would like to bring attention to Christian Rap in that most people have never heard it, also I would like to discuss the difference and similarities between Christian and today’s secular rap, and finally discuss how Christian Rap takes a lot of heat from everybody including most Christians.
I would like to bring attention to Christian Rap in that most people have never heard it. Most of the reason people haven’t heard of Christian Rap is because it doesn’t often get played on the radio. When people think or hear the genre of Christian Rap they think it is lame, that these rappers have no talent, and that it shouldn’t be considered in the “Rap Game”. I would like to just show that most of the new Christian Rap artists, such as Lecrae, Trip Lee, and Shai Linne, have so much talent if they were given the recognition like other rappers get. I would challenge any rap fan to look up Lecrae’s Album’s Gravity and his mix tape Church Clothes. This are really good CD’s and if you listened to a couple of songs on this album I promise you will be blown away by his talent as a rapper. A lot of people feel like you have to be a Christian to listen to this rappers, but in reality you don’t at all. Lecrae and other artist’s alike say that they want everyone listen to their music.
I would like to discuss the differences and similarities between Christian and today’s secular rap. "The subject matter, Christian Rap is clean. Christian rap preaches a message, normally about the Christian lifestyle and way to live. Just regular rap music can be about anything, from violence to money problems, to bad days and bad relationships." There actually aren't a lot of differences in the two besides the fact that Christian Rap doesn’t use profanity in the music. Other than that this music is meant to be a way of expressing one’s self. This is all that rappers are doing where they are Christians or not. I feel as though those most Christian rappers have meanings behind there song besides like most other rappers in which only rap about sex, drugs, and money. I feel like the talent of Christian rappers are just as good as Lupe, Drake, Two Chains, Wayne, Cole, Kayne, etc. Not saying that these rappers are bad, I feel as though they are really good rappers, key their popularity, all the music they have sold, and the money they have made. I’m just trying to shed light into the Christian Rap game as well, showing that these guys are good too. Just check Christian Rappers out and give them a shot.
Finally I would like to discuss how Christian Rap takes a criticism from people including some Christians. Christian Rap gets hated on by other people of the Christian religion which is crazy to me. Some believe all rap is bad. Most rap isn't bad, rap is just a type of music where one can express his or her self and thoughts. There is always conflicts in any genre. This genre, Christian Rap, does take criticism from people. This is probably why I like it so much. Nobody really plays Christian Rap on the radio besides maybe a couple of not popular stations. Even though people do criticize it people do accept it. More ad more people have started to accept this genre and like it. I like how Trip Lee talks about how christian rap is growing and where most of these rappers want to take it. "We’re getting more and more opportunities and our platform is growing. The industry is starting to be more open to what we do. I just don’t want us to be boxed in whatever people assume Christian rap should be. We’re dudes who love hip hop and we love Jesus and that’s going to be apparent in our music. But I don’t think that that means we shouldn’t be given the same opportunities as others. So, I guess what I can hope will happen is that the doors continue to open and people give the music a chance."
So I have decided to do my topic on Music, specifically Christian Rap. This is my favorite type of music and is something that I love. These are my main reasons for just picking this topic. I still will get more points for each topic and go in detail way more about these subjects. This is just an overview of my work on this subject and really just showing that I am passionate about this topic and just showing the reason why I picked this.
